G'day.. This is a great video for miss marched solar panels and the same applies for the every growing HYBRID camper trailers here in Australian.. I bought the lynx distributor after watching your videos. Can you advise if it's a good idea to run the solar POS wire from solar controller straight to battery positive to constantly Barger the batteries even when at home in storage.? My thinking is by running it through lynx Dist and having a battery disconnect switch solar would be isolated ,I'm thinking as the solar has its own disconnect switch to you can disconnect that if you want to shut down every thing. This would save a spot in the lynx distribution for other things and also leaving the neg wire connected to the shunt. Is this a safe and viable solution to seperate solar disconnect? Keep up the great work. Your channel over any other has reached me alot. Thank you.

Personally I run yellow negative for everything 10 gauge down and black negative for everything 8 gauge up. Mostly because it's a pain trying to get 8 gauge up in yellow, but also, who is running 120 volts in 8 gauge or up

I might’ve missed it but how did you secure down the floor? Was it simply through the L track or did you also screw in the subfloor?

Any concerns/warnings for folks buying wire online, to be aware of copper coated aluminum wire being sold as copper?

I am seriously considering Victron products as the basis for a whole home battery backup system with solar. My problem is that despite watching many videos on RUclips, & researching on Victron's website, I can't even begin to understand what Victron products would be suitable.

Why not just do what auto makers do and ground the bulb and battery through the metal chasis of the vehicle. That way, you use half the wire.

I noticed your water supply only connected to the inlet of the accumulator, and you closed off the outlet. Does this still have the full effect of an accumulator?

My favorite is finding only black wire in a DC power circuit, for both positive and negative leads, and distinguishing the positive by only using a section of red heat shrink insulation at the wire lug. I usually see this in battery bank wiring where the installer used what was available.

5 years ago ?! I think you were way ahead of the curve for this type of video. I’m versed in Ohm’s law but new to solar. Maybe you have one already but I’d love to see more on the non major components of a system ( not panels, inverter,batteries, charger controller). I’ll scour your channel for more and a trip to the library might be helpful. TU.

Nice video. I just bought a portable solar generator and want to buy solar panels to charge it. I would like to have at least 2 charging points coming from the same solar panels. Are there are any "distribution boxes" or something of the sort that will allow me run cables from the solar panels to different rooms and allow me change which charging point is active at any given time?

Hi Nate, Good video! Like a lot of people, I'm navigating DC outlets and using a mix of cigarette lighter sockets, SAE, and Anderson Powerpole for 12 VDC outlets. SAE is my pick for the composing toilet vent fan. Being a ham radio operator, I'm following the traditions of ham radio for the 12 VDC Powerpole connectors for radios. But, what about 48 VDC, which seems to be on the horizon for DC appliances? Can you do a video on higher voltages of DC and standards keep them straight, plus any connector standards, which will prevent plugging a 12VDC device into a 48VDC outlet.

For further confusion, white is generally ground in commercial RVs. 🙂 Oops: wrote this while listening and heard you mention this.

Red and black, got it!!😆 Australia uses white as earth return in 5, 7 and 12 pin trailer plugs.

Winnebago uses yellow for DC hot and white for DC negative.

Thanks Nate, I’m not running a lynx or bus bar, connecting the 100/30 controller straight to battery that’s about 3ft away, where and how can I earth the controller ?

I worry a bit about wiring an unfused circuit across the main bus bars. If this little voltage converter failed shorted, I guess the small gauge wire would act as a fuse but in a very uncontrolled way. Seems risky to me.

Sounds like english but what thee😆.. can you measure wire with verniers or a tape measure to determine the size if you can’t see it printed on the wire? I have wire that says 8awg that’s 10mm equivalent but measures 6mm!! can you make a joke with this to help keep the humour up?😆

Sadly I have to add a fuse I find more in modern electrics (distribution systems like Naviop Egon): An ATC Fuse - but in mini. Some half the size than well known ATC fuses.

Yeah that's the process how it's done with Victron solar chargers as such . But few know how to set two identical chargers one for low load output to inverter and the second one kicks in only when high loads needed from battery , any battery , to inverter. Can be done to......

You asked us to leave comments for tips on drilling hardened boron steel of a ford transit. I use an abrasive cone bit. First I take a punch and dimple the metal and then I use a rotary tool to bore the hole bigger with the abrasive cone. It’s slow but it does the trick

Is there some trick to get 4awg to fit into those openings? I'm having a helluva time getting a ferrule to squeeze in those openings. Thanks. Btw, I'm using a crimper similar to what you show on this video.

Nate & Steph. For removal of cab headliner difficult covers you can access the back side from above if you bend the little back shelf and shove a flat pry against that closest tab they pop right out. I cant post a picture here.

I have completed my splice and connection to the inverter with the existing converter breaker off, everything works great. I am wondering if I can just remove the existing converter because it will provide a perfect location for the splice box. Can I just remove it or is there more to it?

Rookie here, but why a 300 amp capable disconnect to a 750 amp block with a 400 amp fuse? Why not the 300 amp block with a 300 amp anl fuse, for a lot less money also?

How do you connect the big power wires to an EcoFlow delta power station????
